The Pains Wessex Rottnest Safety Convoy is a fantastic opportunity for all boat owners especially new boat owners and their families to enjoy a weekend that is educational and fun!
For over 35 years, Rottnest Safety Convoys have provided boaties an interactive experience unique to Western Australia – an organised overnight trip to beautiful Rottnest Island where you can join in the fun of the quiz, tours of the bays, learn safe approaches and benefit from the advice and guidance of experienced escorts from the Department of Transort Marine Safety, Sea Recue and BIAWA members, learn how to correctly use safety equipment, knot tying and splicing.
If you want to use your boat to visit Rottnest Island with your family and friends in safety, and really enjoy the benefits of the boating lifestyle, join the Rottnest Safety Convoy.
The convoy will have departure points from Hillarys and Fremantle.

PARTICIPANTS REQUIREMENTS
- Your boat must be minimum 6m in length and be able to maintain a constant speed of 15 knots
- Your boat must have a safe, seagoing hull with a reliable power unit
- Your boat must have full insurance cover. Please note that although escort vessels form part of each convoy and will do their best to give necessary assistance, in the event of mechanical problems that render your boat incapable of returning to mainland, it is your responsibility to arrange transport back to the mainland and towing your boat.
- Your boat must have a current Boat Registration Sticker
- Your boat must carry a Marine Radio and anchor points for anchoring overnight.
- Your boat must have on board Full Regulation Safety Equipment. Refer to the website for further information on safety requirements: www.transport.wa.gov.au
MOORING & PEN RENTALS
Boats over 8m will require either a mooring or a pen. These can be obtained by contacting The Rottnest Island Authority Central Reservations on 9432 9111 or online www.mooring-ria.dbca.wa.gov.au/map/
Ensure that the mooring is in Thomson Bay or Jetties.
SAFETY BRIEFING
A Safety Briefing will be held at 6pm, Tuesday 4th November.
It is compulsory for at least one adult representative from each boat to attend the Briefing Meeting. Important information will be distributed at the meeting and to gain the full benefit of the Convoy you will want to make sure you attend.

ROTTNEST ISLAND ADMISSION FEE
The Rottnest Island Authority kindly waive the admission landing fee for all Rottnest Safety Convoy participants.
COST
The Rottnest Safety Convoy costs $200 per boat.
DINNER & QUIZ NIGHT
A dinner and quiz night is held on the Saturday at 5pm at The Rottnest Hotel. This is a fun evening starting off with the quiz with extremely generous prizes from our sponsors – radios, life jackets, flares and much much more. Then relax and enjoy the night with new friends. Tickets are $80.00 per person and include dinner.
