PRESS RELEASE - WA MARINE AWARDS 2012

Produced by the Boating Industry Association of WA and sponsored by the Department of Commerce, these prestigious Awards are on track to recognise the State’s outstanding boating product and personnel.

The WA Marine Awards will give centre stage to WA built boats in a variety of medium and styles.  Specialist judges have been allocated to each category and the Judging Co-ordinator, Ms Sheryl Swarbrick says that “The craftsmanship evident in WA boats is second to none.  Our boatbuilders take great pride in presenting top quality and innovative design vessels.  I have no doubt that the 2012 judges will be impressed with all of the boats they test”.

In order to acknowledge non WA built vessels, Imported Categories have been introduced and will once again be judged by specialists judges.  Ms Swarbrick says “While the primary purpose of the Awards is to celebrate our WA achievements, we do understand that our WA members sell interstate and overseas boats and we would like to give the consumers an indication of what we think are some good examples of these boats”.  These boats are not eligible to win the WA Boat of the Year.

The WA Marine Awards Ceremony will be held on 22 March 2012 at the Hillarys Yacht Clubr.  Hon Simon O'Brien will present the evening’s top award, the WA Boat of the Year in front of an audience of 200 marine industry supporters and sponsors such as the Hillarys Yacht Club, Westcorp Finance, JPW Wholesalers, Club Marine, the Swan River Trust, Roadmaster Trailers, Grand Toyota and Honda MPE, BoatTrader Magazine and Westcoast Boating Magazine. The Boat of the Year and Category winners will be on show at the City of Joondalup Hillarys Boat Show which opens the following day at the Hillarys Boat Harbour in the City of Joondalup.  The show runs from Friday 23 - Sunday 25 March 2012.
