REVIEW OF NEW RECREATIONAL DEMERSAL FISHING RULES

The report provides an overview of the background to the Minister for Fisheries recent decision to implement a spring/summer seasonal closure for the take of five demersal fish species (Westralian dhufish, pink snapper, baldchin grouper, breaksea cod and red snapper [bight redfish]) in the West Coast bioregion. A summary of the background to these rule changes, including the history of abundance the three key demersal species, currently being taken by all fishing sectors is provided.
